Thursday, May 10 General Meeting Information

U Street Neighborhood Association will have its general meeting on May 10, 2012 at the Third District Pollce Station community room at 7 pm.  DDOT will give updates on the U Street streetscape.  The office of Planning will be providing an overview of the PUD process.  JBG will be providing updates and describe the variances they are requesting for the project at Florida/8th Street.  Hiba Abdallah will be presenting on a facility planned to be built at 9th/S St NW for individuals aging out of the foster care system.  Also Zahir Rahimi (owner of Mila 2015 14th St) will describe his desire to change this clothing store to a restaurant.  We will also be discussing the U Street Neighborhood Harrison Recreation Center film series starting in May.

CSNA's August meeting was a meeting of reviewing recent success and planning for the future.

A review of the very successful MidCity Development Showcase which was held during Dog Days, the approval of the new community parternship, the Friends of Harrison Recreation Center, and a visit by Sgt. Washington, the Sgt. for PSA 305 and our very own Councilmember Graham.

  • Congratulationsgo out to Jon Kardon our Business Development Chair for putting together a great event last Saturday at Dog Days for the Developer's Showcase. 
  • CSNA voted unanimously to renew our director's insurance for next year.

Community Reports & Announcements 

  • Councilmember Jim Graham Update – The Councilman paid CSNA a visit to discuss his run for the Democratic Primary Ward One Council Seat.  He mentioned the successes of the past year including the Yellow Line extension.  He also mentioned the need for a greater police presence in the neighborhoods, something he is working hard on.
  • ANC 1B Update – Phil Spalding www.anc1b.org - The next ANC meeting will be held on Wednesday the 6th instead of Thursday due to scheduling difficulties.  Phil requested that next month's agenda include these three liquor license issues: U-Turn, 11 Market, and La Casona.

Treasurer’s Report:  Chuck Baxter, Treasurer - CSNA now has $6,608.67 in its account, with $3,045 coming in from the Developer's Showcase and $1,538.50 paid out for expenses.

  • Cheryl thanked Level 2 for keeping their promise to allow for foot traffic around the construction site.
  • Cheryl also discussed the status of the Comprehensive Plan.  This will be further discussed and voted on at the September meeting of CSNA.

  • Friends of Harrison Recreation Center - CSNA voted to formalize its Friend of Harrison Recreation Center program with the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR).  This new partnership will serve as a new way to support this treasured green space in our neighborhood.
  • Fall Planting - presentation by Liz of DC Greenworks - The fall planting has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 14th.  Liz made a presentation on what will be needed, including around 30 volunteers for the day of the planting.  Please contact Laura if you are interested in helping us with this planting on Vermont Ave.

  • Presentation on 2029 and 2031 13th Street NW project - CSNA voted to support this project contingent upon a few issues and will send a letter to the ANC and HRP to reflect this support.

  • Responsible Hospitality Panel - CSNA will be writing a letter of support for the pilot program in the near future. 
  • Dog Days Developer's Showcase - Budget breakdown and share with MidCity.  CSNA voted to split the funds from the Developer's Showcase with the MidCity Business Association for their efforts in making the event a success as well as to earmark the remaining funds for next year's Dog Days event.
