Community Presentation

  • Meghan Conklin, Commissioner for ANC 1B06, gave an update on the work at Meridian Hill Park.  The National Park Service has been installing new restrooms and improving concrete on the upper level of the park.  She is working with others to sponsor events in the park this fall.  They are hoping to have an event in the lower part of the park October 21, 2007.  Possibly historic tours and/or children's activities.  Commissioner Conklin will update CSNA at the next meeting.
  • d. (District Department of Transportation) - Update on U Street corridor issues
    • 1) possibility of extending W and Bryant Streets from Georgia Avenue to Sherman Avenue.  The city is discussing the plan with Howard University since some university property would be required for the streets to become through streets.  The current proposal is for both street to be 45 feet wide.  There is some discussion of making Barry Place one way heading East and Bryant one way heading West.  CSNA voted to support the plan as presented and to write a letter to Howard University supporting the proposed plan and encouraging Howard to participate.

      2) DDOT is in the process of studying and designing the streetscape for 14th Street between Thomas Circle and Florida Avenue.  For more information, visitwww.14thstreetstudy.com

      3) DDOT is also considering converting 15th Street into a two-way street with bike lanes, similar to 13th Street.  The goal of this plan would be to return the street to residential use.  DDOT is currently doing traffic simulations for proposed lane configurations.

      4) The plan for the U Street Revitalization Project was presented.  The revitalization would take place on U Street from 9th St. NW to Florida Avenue.  The plan includes resurfacing pavement, sidewalk replacement/widening, changes to intersections at 16th and 17th Streets, and improvement to street lights.  A meeting will be held in October to discuss the plans.
    • 1901 Vermont Avenue, NW - Curb cut and driveway
