Thursday, May 10 General Meeting Information

U Street Neighborhood Association will have its general meeting on May 10, 2012 at the Third District Pollce Station community room at 7 pm.  DDOT will give updates on the U Street streetscape.  The office of Planning will be providing an overview of the PUD process.  JBG will be providing updates and describe the variances they are requesting for the project at Florida/8th Street.  Hiba Abdallah will be presenting on a facility planned to be built at 9th/S St NW for individuals aging out of the foster care system.  Also Zahir Rahimi (owner of Mila 2015 14th St) will describe his desire to change this clothing store to a restaurant.  We will also be discussing the U Street Neighborhood Harrison Recreation Center film series starting in May.

On Thursday, July 9, 2009, at 7 pm, the U Street Neighborhood Association held its regular meeting at the DC Housing Finance Agency, 815 Florida Avenue, NW.  Topics included updates on community projects, a bylaws change, and a presentation on the U Street Parade and Festival.

  • Bryan noted that CSNA has officially changed its dba name to U Street Neighborhood Association.
  • The U Street Neighborhood Association voted unanimously to pay $564 in Board & Operators Insurance.
  • The U Street Neighborhood Association voted unanimously to support the bylaw change to Section 3 - Admission of Members: 
    • "Applicants shall be admitted to membership upon payment of annual dues as specified in the following sections of this Bylaw.  The term of membership is for 12 months; the membership term shall end 12 months later on the last day of the month in which dues were paid."
  • The U Street Neighborhood Association voted unanimously to make the Friends of Harrison Recreation Center a standing committee.
  • The U Street Neighborhood Association voted unanimously for Lydia Charles to be the Chair of the Harrison Recreation Center Committee.
Committee Business Reports and Discussion
 
  • The U Street Neighborhood Association voted unanimously to participate in a joint letter with other neighborhood associations and ANC1B to request additional MPD resources for PSA 305.

The total balance in the account as of July 1 is $16,584.72.  Of that amount, $4,482.24 is earmarked for Dog Days, $9.33 is for the Vermont Ave. planting project, and $10 is for Harrison Recreation Center Committee, leaving $12,083.15 available for general use.

  • Eatonville - 2121 14th Street, NW: The summer garden for Eatonville was not originally in their liquor license, and Eatonville is now applying for the license for their summer garden to operate as late as 2 am on weeknights and 3 am on weekends.  There was no motion by the U Street Neighborhood Association to weigh in on this license.
  • Dickson Wine Bar - 903 U Street, NW: Dickson Wine will be a small organic wine bar, and the partners include the wife of Eric Hilton (Marvin, Gibson).  There may be a Voluntary Agreement in the works with ANC1B02 Commissioner Peter Raia.
  • Table 14 - 1832 14th Street, NW: The owners of Local 16 are opening Table 14, which will be adjacent to Room & Board.  Their applicaiotion includes a roof deck with capacity of 40 people, a sidewalk cafe with 16 people, and an indoor occupancy of 199 people.
  • Indulj - 1208 U Street, NW - There have been noise complaints.  Hopefully the noise can be contained.
  • Asmara - 900 Florida Ave., NW: Asmara has suddenly closed operations.
  • JBG Hotel project - JBG is preparing their PUD Application.
  • 1417 Belmont Street was condemned and demolished.
  • The Greater U Street Historic District markers are ready to be installed.
  • Dukem is continuing to work on their designs for an expansion with HPRB.
Community Presentations
  • U Street Parade and Festival: Ron Briggs presented plans for the U Street Parade and Festival on Saturday, September 19.  The parade will end on the 1300 Block of V Street, and this block will be renamed "Langston Hughes Way".  There will be performan9ces at Harrison Recreation Center and on V Street.  The night before the festival, on September 18, there will be a performance at the Lincoln Theatre on the Harlem Renaissance.
  • ANC 2F Arts Overlay Committee: Andrea Doughty presented the ANC2F Arts Overlay Committee findings.  Details can be found at www.anc2f.org/arts
