Thursday, May 10 General Meeting Information

U Street Neighborhood Association will have its general meeting on May 10, 2012 at the Third District Pollce Station community room at 7 pm.  DDOT will give updates on the U Street streetscape.  The office of Planning will be providing an overview of the PUD process.  JBG will be providing updates and describe the variances they are requesting for the project at Florida/8th Street.  Hiba Abdallah will be presenting on a facility planned to be built at 9th/S St NW for individuals aging out of the foster care system.  Also Zahir Rahimi (owner of Mila 2015 14th St) will describe his desire to change this clothing store to a restaurant.  We will also be discussing the U Street Neighborhood Harrison Recreation Center film series starting in May.

On Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 7 pm, the U Street Neighborhood Association held its regular meeting at the DC Housing Finance Agency, 815 Florida Avenue, NW.  Topics included updates on community projects, a bylaws change, and a presentation on the U Street Parade and Festival.

  • The U Street Neighborhood Association voted unanimously to approve Scott Pomeroy as Chair of the Green Committee.
Committee Business Reports and Discussion
 
  • Prior to tonight’s U Street Neighborhood Association meeting, a meeting was held with MPD Third District Commander George Kucik, to discuss public safety issues within our boundaries.  This meeting will occur prior to every monthly U Street Neighborhood Association meeting and is an effort to work more closely with MPD on issues within our boundaries in a setting other than the PSA meetings.

  • The balance in the account is $18,541.15.  Of that amount, $1,744.39 is designated for future Dog Days events, $9.33 is for the Vermont Ave. planting, and $20 is for the Friends of Harrison Recreation Center project.  The amount available for general use is $16,767.43.
  • Jon noted that there is a credit for $903.59 from the Rainbow Rentals, the tent rental company, to use prior to August 1, 2010.

  • Scott Pomeroy noted a problem with the new curbs at the intersection of 15th Street / Florida / W and said that he would follow up with Cheryl.

  • 1905 is seeking to open a roof deck.  Jean Homza said that she would follow up with Bryan about this.  There are concerns with a roof deck being opened in close proximity to residences.
  • ANC 2F Arts Overlay Report Presentation and Request for Support: The U Street Neighborhood Association voted unanimously to support the recommendations by the ANC 2F Arts Overlay Review Committee.  Further information about the recommendations can be found at http://www.anc2f.org/arts/ 
  • There will be a planting event along Vermont Ave on the weekend of 9/26/09; more information on our website.
Community Presentations
  • U Street Parade and Festival: The Greater U Street Festival will be hosted at Harrison Recreation Center on 9/19/09, from 11 am – 6 pm.
