The U Street Neighborhood Associattion had it general membership meeting on October 13th, 2011 at 7:00 pm; Source Theatre, 1835 14th St. NW, 2nd Floor. The DC Historic Preservation Office came and gave a brief presentation and discussed historic issues and the development process among other items.

- Christine announced the nominating committee's slate of officers for calendar year 2011. Christine announced: Brian Card – President; Tucker Gallagher – Vice President; Sharon Dreyfuss – Treasurer; and Christine Szarthmary– Secretary. Speeches will be made next month
- Holiday Party will be Dec 8th; 7-10 pm at Local 16 upstairs (1700 block of U Street). We will hold the elections at this time and a silent auction.
- ANC Redistricting Task Force has been looking at Ward 1 ANCs and has developed two maps (a four district map – same as now; ANC 1A & 1B same district with changes within; second option was a five district map). - Sharon reported balance for U Street Neighborhood Association is $14,708.46 with no receipts/disbursements. The balance for the Harrison Recreation Center fund is $11,221.73 with $1400 sponsorship Marvin; $2500 grant; and disbursements of $312.50 (National Treasure) and disbursement of the grant for playground ($2,500).

He talked about the preservation process which the U Street Residents just experienced in the Level 2 Development project @ 14th & Wallach Place. He has been in that office for 20 years. He works on development process for the 43 historic districts in DC. They work on large development projects as well as property upgrades such as window replacements. Encouraged folks to look at their website where they have provided information for homeowners. They are updating their guidelines (he shared one on window replacement). The Historic Preservation Review Board meets monthly for larger projects. He said that the board strongly considers community input on their decisions. When asked about upcoming projects he mentioned Matchbox @ 14th/T Street NW.

- PSA 305 Update. Brian said that the development of reimbursable details on 1900 9th St NW still underway. CM Graham (John DeTaeye) is working on coordinating various housing projects in this area to improve security. The separation of PSA 305 into two PSAs should be occurring at end of year. PSA meeting is now occuring the Third District Station. CM Graham's office representation (DeTaeye) said that they have 16 businesses in the 1900 block of 9th St.

- We have applied for 2 grants. One is to create a small green space for meditation and design for the park (Open Space Sacred Place). The other grant is Kaboom which would be for playground equipment. We will be wrapping up the movie series next weekend. Previous movie was cancelled due to weather. Will be planning another movie series next year as well. Seeking someone to head the movie series next year.

- Business Openings / Closings: Chidogos (U Street Girl) closes in prep for Utopia. Dunkin Donuts at 14th & U finally opened (several sources), Smucker Farms put a sign up on 14th Street at W which will open soon. Pulp has found a new owner and will stay open. Ben's Chili Bowl has also signed on a location on H Street. The Pizza place on T btw 7/8th will be joined by another restaurant: All Souls which should be a really nice spot for outdoor seating. 11 Eleven Market also renovated to make it more customer friendly. Matchbox and Taylors at 14th & T has started construction.
- Development: CityMarket at O announced their groundbreaking for Nov 15. Next door,Kelsey Gardens was sold by the church that owned the and the new owners announced that they may begin construction by next year. The old Post Office on T west of 14th announced plans to build 2 two story buildings.
- ETC: George Mason U announced that they DC area will add 1 million new jobs by 2030 which will put greater demand on our resources. Norwood Cooperative has finally gained permission to buy their building from the landlord with the help of DC housing funds. This is an example for some other tenant associations looking to do the same. Unfortunately the DC fund that they are drawing from has been de-funded. Recently a magazine named the National Mall as one of the worst outdoor public spaces along with HUD plaza, luckily there are plans afoot to make it more pedestrian friendly. NORAD will be conducting drills over the city tonite through Sunday.e

- Alex from Meridian Charter School (Pre-K through 8th grade) provided a site utilization plan for the school at 2100 block of 13th St (Harrison Building). They will be putting in 12,000 square foot addition in the rear as part of their refurbishing of the building. Heavy equipment will be coming down V Street. Parking on the north side of V Street to the alley will not be available during this project for November to July 2012. They have signed a 50 year lease with the city for the building. Building will be about 62,000 square feet, expected capacity 622 (currently have 510) students. DDOT review of plans should occur next week.
Kevin announced City Year at Shaw will be hosting a multicultural night 5:30-7:30; October 26th.
- Fillmore Arts Center is doing a fundraiser next week with Home Made Pizza on 14th Street donating a portion of pickup sales to Fillmore Arts Center – Tuesday October 18th. Garrison and Ross both send students to Fillmore Arts Center as part of their art engagement.
- Alice talked about the movie "Waiting for superman" and panel discussion that will occur next weekend October 22nd noon-4:30 pm at Shaw at Garnett Patterson School. For more details go to U Street Website or Eventbrit ????????

- Said that the Lincoln Theatre still doesn't have funds. Suggestion was made to install a new management company. This is a city owned property that is managed by an appointed board currently.
