Please join us for the second in a series of
Garrison Elementary School's Community Outreach meetings on Saturday, March 26, 2011, from 1 to 3 pm at Garrison at 1200 S St, NW. There will be refreshments and kids are welcome!
This event will have two components: an informational meeting and a volunteer service opportunity. After the jump, there is a link to a sign-up survey, so we can plan for your participation. If you can come early and/or stay late, that would be great...it will allow the school volunteers to get more work done! The survey includes options to let us know if you are available to do this.
The informational meeting will be primarily geared toward incoming and prospective families; however, ALL are welcome to participate! As the DCPS lottery results are in, and it is now time to make some tough decisions, we hope this opportunity to find out more and get outstanding questions answered will be helpful.
Principal Seaward will provide a brief overview of his plan to ensure the school maintains a steady climb towards academic excellence for all our students.

You'll also hear from at least two of our Early Childhood teachers -- PreSchool/PreKindergarten teacher Allison Lo and PreK teacher Brenda Burns; we hope to also introduce you to PreSchool teacher Sandra Rutherford and Kindergarten teacher Tracey Miller (they are working out their schedules).
They will be on hand for an informal discussion of their backgrounds and teaching methods. They'll describe a typical day at school and lead a discussion and exchange of ideas about ways you can work with them to support your child's learning experience in the classroom and at home. The survey below includes an opportunity to submit questions for this portion of the event. We would love your feedback so everyone can come prepared.
For the volunteer service opportunity, you can choose to work in the school library or on the school grounds. We've done lots of work in the library already and could use more helping hands to keep the momentum going. We have established a landscaping committee to drive the work on our school grounds and have held discussions with master gardeners to help make informed decisions on how to approach the beautification, but Saturday the 26th is the first round of work! We'll need help in laying mulch, pulling weeds, trimming bushes, and the like.
