U Street Neighborhood Association will have its general meeting on May 10, 2012 at the Third District Pollce Station community room at 7 pm. DDOT will give updates on the U Street streetscape. The office of Planning will be providing an overview of the PUD process. JBG will be providing updates and describe the variances they are requesting for the project at Florida/8th Street. Hiba Abdallah will be presenting on a facility planned to be built at 9th/S St NW for individuals aging out of the foster care system. Also Zahir Rahimi (owner of Mila 2015 14th St) will describe his desire to change this clothing store to a restaurant. We will also be discussing the U Street Neighborhood Harrison Recreation Center film series starting in May.

The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles Service Center operations located at 301 C Street, NW in rooms 1157, 1034 and 1036 (driver services, dealer services, temporary tags, driver license applications/duplicates, learner permit applications, identification card applications, medical review, disability placards & tags, vehicle titles/registration & tags) will move to the new Southwest Service Center located at 95 M Street, SW effective Monday, April 30, 2007. Service hours at the Southwest Service Center will be 8:15 am - 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday.“With the opening of the Southwest Service Center, the DMV is now conveniently located in each quadrant of the District making services more readily available to our residents and customers,” said Lucinda Babers, DMV Acting Director. The opening follows an extensive two-year renovation of the former United Way building the District purchased. The new 38,000 square foot facility will roll out state-of-the-art driver knowledge testing equipment in multiple languages in the fall of 2007, and is disability accessible. The site has enhanced landscaping that utilizes an environmental storm water system which includes rain gardens. The environmental system is a partnership between the DMV and the Casey Trees Endowment Fund.
The Southwest Service Center is located around the corner from the DMV Southwest Vehicle Inspection Station and is accessible by the Metro Green Line (Navy Yard and Waterfront SEU Metro stops), Metrobus and the DC Circulator.
