DPW and DDOT Remind Residents They Don't Plow Alleys Print E-mail
Written by DDOT and DPW
ImageImageThe District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Department of Public Works (DPW) want to remind residents that as a policy the District does not plow alleys.

“The District does not plow alleys,” said DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr.  “We do not have the resources and in the majority of the alleys there is no place to push the snow.  It would be too difficult and labor intensive to plow any type of alley, whether narrow or wide, in the District.”

Tune into the local media or check DPW’s Web site — www.dpw.dc.gov — for trash collection news.

“We are receiving numerous requests from residents, higher than in years past,” said DDOT Director Gabe Klein.  “Our crews are focused on clearing the District’s 1100 miles of roadway, in particular the residential and side streets.  We just do not have the resources to plow alleys.”

Additional information on the District’s snow plan can be found at www.ddot.dc.gov.

Written by U Street Neighborhood Association
ImageBeginning on Monday, March 23, 2009, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will survey commercial areas to ensure compliance with the District’s regulations on the placement of signs in public space, and on sidewalks in particular.  Title 24 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR) prohibits the placement of any signs on sidewalks in the District, with few exceptions.

DDOT has recently received numerous complaints about a proliferation of illegal signs in public space.  While being mindful of the needs of local businesses, DDOT will enforce the municipal regulations to ensure safe and efficient travel for pedestrians and vehicular traffic.

You should expect 30 minute delays when traveling between the Mount Vernon Sq-7th St Convention Center and U Street/African-Amer Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metrorail stations because of switch maintenance at the Mount Vernon Sq-7th St Convention Center Metrorail station.
