The October meeting of the Cardozo Shaw Neighborhood Association was held on October 9 at the True Reformer Building (12th and U). Action Items: Voted (8-0-2 ) to write a letter to ABC and the ANC in support of extended patio hours for Solly's Tavern (11th and U). Proposed hours are midnight during the week and 1:00 on weekends. Voted (9-1-1) to create a special project to oversee the proposed development at 1800-1818 14th Street. Lydia Charles has been appointed to work on this project. More minutes after the jump.
Discussion/Presentations: The group discussed with Ted Losa, Chief of Staff for Jim Graham, serious concerns regarding policing in the Greater U Street area and the delays in responsed to 911 calls. He agreed to get us policing statistics as CSNA is considering conduction its own study of policing in this area. CSNA will compile a list of our issues to submit to Councilman Graham's office. Firemen from Company 9 gave a presentation on safety tips for fire prevention week. Anca Novacovici gave breif presention about her company that helps residences and business go green. Representatives from the Public Welfare Foundation presented their plans for the development alley dwellings in the Temperance Row parcel which is landlocked between U and S (north/south) and 12th and 13th (east/west). CSNA President, Lynn Coffin, reported on three issues: concern for the state of the First African New Church which CSNA worked to get landmark status but is now in structural danger; the lack of transparancy on the part of the Office of Property Managment regarding the disposition of the Grimke School; and planning for the December 11 holiday party which will be held at Nellie's. Shelore Williams, who is running for the DC State Board of Education, addressed the group briefly. |
