CSNA held its regular meeting on Thursday, April, 2009, at 7 pm, at Source, 1835 14th Street, NW. The meeting included a presentation by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) on area work, presentation by Maggie Moo's on potential changes to their business plan, and discussion of new and existing alcohol (ABC) licenses in the CSNA area. MPD provided an update on PSA 305 activity. There has been an increase in car break-ins (theft from auto), MPD urged people to not leave anything in your vehicle. There has also been an increase in robberies – watch your surroundings and trust your instincts. Regarding the past melee on T street, it was determined that some of the individuals involved were patrons of Axum. MPS foot patrols will increase on 9th, W, and V Streets and 12th and U Streets. A full list will be provided by MPD and posted on CSNA website Bryan returned to his remarks. - Cheryl Walter was nominated for Historic Preservation Committee Chair. A motion to approve was introduced, seconded, and passed.
- JBG’s hotel project has dropped a floor and cantilevered rear of the building – additional details on CSNA website. CSNA learned that the DC Historic Preservation Office (HPO) had scheduled Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) review scheduled for April. This is a concern as CSNA has not had an opportunity to provide formal comments or a poistion on the project to HPO or HPRB. A motion was made and seconded to request that HPO defer consideration of the JBG U Street Hotel project until CSNA can provide formal comments. The motion passed.
- CSNA received formal support for CSNA's Friends of Harrison Recreation project from ANC 1B; the letter of support is now a requested part of the partnership application from the DC Department of Parks and Recreation.
- Ideas were discussed how CSNA could be part of this year's Dogs Days, August 1 and 2. Ideas include neighborhood tours, developer’s showcase, and movie in Harrison Park. Please contact CSNA if you are interested in volunteering to support CSNA's Dog Days activities.

- The Vermont Avenue Garden (Work!) Party is Saturday, April 25 at 9 am. A motion was made and adopted that any funds raised for the planting party can be spent on the project.

DDOT Presentation - Muhammed Kalid from DDOT gave an update on projects in our area.
- The U Street redesign should be completed by this time next year with construction beginning the following year. The work encompasses U Street from 9th to Florida/18th. It will take six months to work on a traffic management plan.
- Stimulus funds will be used to resurface 17th and 18th. Champlain reopening will start in June.
- Great Streets plan for Georgia Avenue – Two phases. Phase one Otis to Euclid in final design. Euclid to Florida will be the second phase.
- Howard Theater rehab will include resurfacing & sidewalks, new street lights, and other improvements. Improvements to Duke Ellington Plaza will include globe lights, sculpture and bike racks. Construction should begin early 2010.

- Maggie Moos presented the idea of changing from ice cream to gelato Italian eatery. They plan to seek a liquor license in order to serve coffee/gelato with alcohol. Once changed to gelato, store would no longer be affiliated with Maggie Moos.
- Zoning board is proposing to increase the use of mix requirements behind Lincoln Theater. The current zoning requires a residential component and the board would like to remove that requirement. Motion was made and approved to support the zoning change.
- City Paper Best of DC included many local businesses - thanks to the businesses that participated and congratulations to those who won!
- Maza 14 (1825 14th) has applied for a CR license. No representative in attendance. According to the application, applicant seeks full hours, 140 occupancy, sidewalk café with 25 seats, dining music. Petition date is April 20. ANC1B and Dupont Circle are protesting.
- Ulah has applied to open a summer garden in the plaza in front of SunTrust. The General Manager presented the following plans. The dining area will be enclosed by tall flower boxes; they are seeking 32 seats from 11-11 with only half the allotted seating at lunch; no music is planned. Motion to support change to license to allow alcohol service in garden was approved.
- Vinoteca is seeking to extend patio hours to open at 10 am (only applies on Sunday) and close at 12 am Sunday-Thursday, 1 am Friday/Saturday. Paul, the owner, presented the proposed changes. After discussion, motion made to support extended hours – vote tied, motion failed.
- Twins Jazz has applied to change from a CR to CT license and add entertainment on Monday and Tuesday. A motion was made to support the change to CT and the endorsement and to support ANC 1B’s efforts to negotiate with the business.
