Thursday, May 10 General Meeting Information

U Street Neighborhood Association will have its general meeting on May 10, 2012 at the Third District Pollce Station community room at 7 pm.  DDOT will give updates on the U Street streetscape.  The office of Planning will be providing an overview of the PUD process.  JBG will be providing updates and describe the variances they are requesting for the project at Florida/8th Street.  Hiba Abdallah will be presenting on a facility planned to be built at 9th/S St NW for individuals aging out of the foster care system.  Also Zahir Rahimi (owner of Mila 2015 14th St) will describe his desire to change this clothing store to a restaurant.  We will also be discussing the U Street Neighborhood Harrison Recreation Center film series starting in May.

The PSA 305 meeting on September 6th, 2011 was attended by representatives from several city agencies and community groups including:

  • MPD: Lt. Jova (202-671-7357, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , Lt. Carroll (PSA 308), Sgt Terestre (PSA 307). Marco Santiago, and Sgt. Jackson were present.
  • Metro Police - an officer was in attendance.
  • U.S. Attorney's Office: no representation
  • CSOSA: no representation (They were requested to attend by MPD and U St. Neighborhood Association)
  • Howard University Police: Sgt McMillan.
  • ANC 1B: no representation
  • Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services: no representation
  • Councilmember Graham's Office: John DeTaeye
  • LeDroit Park Civic Association: Jana Baldwin
  • Westminster Neighborhood Association: James Rawlings and other residents were in attendance
  • U Street Neighborhood Association: Sushupta Sudarshan & Brian Card
  • 9:30 club - Karim Karefa-Smart

Summary PSA 305 Meeting - September 6th, 2011

  • Lt. Jova announced that there was a public safety forum being sponsored by African Community September 14th 6 pm at the Reeves Center. 
  • Lt. Jova introduced Jana Baldwin who was offering to lead an effort to do a Clean and Green DC Adopt a Block focused on removing trash from an area around 7th & T St and Florida/Georgia Ave NW. 
  • There was a discussion about the Lincoln Westmoreland progress.  John DeTaeye reported that Lt. Carroll has provided names and contacts, still working on obtaining the trusts from the management companies.  Next few weeks will be meeeting with the property managers and security companies - focused on sharing barring notices, allowing MPD access.
  • There was a discussion about the reimbursable effort for the 9th & Florida Ave business.  18 businesses have been identified as potential participants.  CM Graham's office reported that they are working issues with the businesses including concerns on MPD deployment.
  • There was discussion about the 11th & Rhode Island shooting where DeAngelo Jones was arrested for shooting 2 individuals.  Mr. Jones was under CSOSA' care for an arrest and guilty plea for carrying a gun near Lincoln Westmoreland.  CSOSA was invited to the meeting to discuss, but wasn't present.
  • There were a lot of questions from the community about how extensive the "crew" situations were and their impact on the violent crime in the neighb orhood.
  • Lt. Jova stated that reported calls for gunshots have declined (71 calls for Jan - Sept 2010 compared to 50 calls for the comparable period in 2011)
  • Robberies are up.  2 Juvenilles were arrested at Garfield Terrace for robberies
  • A metro police officer described that a lot of the iphones that are being stolen are being sold to middleman who are selling them to another country.
  • Howard homecoming will be in the 3rd weekend of October.
