The PSA 305 meeting on March 1, 2011 was attended by community members and representatives from several city agencies.  The U.S. Attorney's Office gave a presentation on the arrest process.  There was a long discussion on the area around 7th & T Street which has problems with public drunkeness, drugs, etc that spill over to other parts of the neighborhood.

The crime rates and comparative statistics for February 2011 are detailed in the table.  There has been an increase in total crime for the last month (January 29th - February 28, 2011).  Many of the burglaries occurred as a result of entry through the rear door during work hours on Monday through Thursday.  Most of the theft from autos (about 70%) were for non-DC license plates and were occurring on Fridays and Saturdays.  Lt. Jova stated that the tactical unit focused on robberies was still in place and had made an arrest that day.  M. Santiago stated that the robberies included scenarios in which the victim was approached from behind with force and violence, North Face jackets were stolen, and wallets were being stolen out of handbags while the victim was distracted or on the phone.  There were three sex abuse crimes in PSA 305 in the past month.  MPD stated that two of the sex crimes occurred in 2200 block of 12th Street and were committed by the same perpetrator.  A breakdown of the 98 crimes reported in February 2011 is set forth at the end of this summary.

Roger Kemp and Jelahn Stewart from the U.S. Attorney's Office gave a detailed presentation on the process from arrest to court proceedings.  They also explained how to check the status of court cases at http://www.dccourts.gov/dccourts by entering either the case number or the first/last name.  The information provided at this website includes upcoming court dates, the charge against the defendant, and additional details.  They will be presenting their Courtwatch/Case Strategy next month.

CSOSA reported on 11 Domestic Violence violators who are being monitored within PSA 305.  CSOSA provided a flyer for an event on March 20th, Community Justice Advisory Network (CJAN) for concerned citizens to discuss how to address public safety through workforce development and better communication.  This event is 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Reeves Center, 2000 14th St NW, 2nd floor large community room. 

Cecilia Jones and Jana Baldwin announced their 3D Neighborhood Watch Program Training on March 17th at 7:00-8:30 pm at the 3D Police Station (1620 V Street NW - Snyder Room).  All are welcome to attend.  
 
At the end of the meeting there was a focused discussion on actions for improving on-going issues at 7th and T St, as this was identified as a problematic area at the February 2011 PSA 305 meeting.  This is part of a new initiative to focus on specific locations and have DC government entities/MPD/local community take action to improve them that started at the February 2011 PSA 305 meeting.

• Lt. Jova indicated that he would have officers on Segways there starting in the first week of March. 
• Residents suggested that the old bike stands on the Northwest corner of 7th/T should be removed.
• Residents suggested that increased focus on drinking, drugs, public urination, and graffitti at this sight would be helpful.  
  Residents mentioned a February 2011 incident in which an individual was attacked near the Metro.
• Questions were raised if moving the bus-stop from its current location at front of the CVS to north of Florida Ave. may be helpful. 
  Residents pointed out that the scaffolding near the construction site was dangerous.
• Residents pointed out that getting the business at the SE corner of 7th/Florida which is piping music out to the whole neighborhood to stop would be helpful.
• Residents asked for DCRA action on an abandoned (and open) house in the 1900 block of 8th St. 
• Residents pointed out that action needs to be taken regarding people who are selling items on 8th St (outside of the Flea Market) since these people are leaving garbage on the street after they finish.
• Sedrick Muhammad stated he would take action on items discussed.
