Thursday, May 10 General Meeting Information

U Street Neighborhood Association will have its general meeting on May 10, 2012 at the Third District Pollce Station community room at 7 pm.  DDOT will give updates on the U Street streetscape.  The office of Planning will be providing an overview of the PUD process.  JBG will be providing updates and describe the variances they are requesting for the project at Florida/8th Street.  Hiba Abdallah will be presenting on a facility planned to be built at 9th/S St NW for individuals aging out of the foster care system.  Also Zahir Rahimi (owner of Mila 2015 14th St) will describe his desire to change this clothing store to a restaurant.  We will also be discussing the U Street Neighborhood Harrison Recreation Center film series starting in May.

Mayor Williams Asks Residents to Join him August 26 for School Beautification Day

Mayor Anthony A. Williams encouraged people to sign up for the second annualDistrict of Columbia Public Schools Beautification Project on Satuday, August 26, 2006.
 
The mayor said he was looking forward to the new school year and plans to join in the cleanup effort next Saturday. The goal of Beautification Day is to spruce up the city’s public schools with landscaping, flower planting, trash pickup, tree and shrub trimming, mulching and other efforts aimed at providing students and parents with a welcoming sight on August 28, 2006, the first day of school. This is the second year that the District has sponsored an all volunteer, citywide cleanup effort at District schools.
“I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and sprucing up some of our schools before the beginning of the new academic year. The start of school should be a time of optimism and excitement and I truly believe that a tidy and welcoming school makes for a good learning  environment. I want to thank in advance all of the individuals who donated material and supplies for the beautification process and hope to see a lot of volunteers come together for the good of the community.”
