Thursday, May 10 General Meeting Information

U Street Neighborhood Association will have its general meeting on May 10, 2012 at the Third District Pollce Station community room at 7 pm.  DDOT will give updates on the U Street streetscape.  The office of Planning will be providing an overview of the PUD process.  JBG will be providing updates and describe the variances they are requesting for the project at Florida/8th Street.  Hiba Abdallah will be presenting on a facility planned to be built at 9th/S St NW for individuals aging out of the foster care system.  Also Zahir Rahimi (owner of Mila 2015 14th St) will describe his desire to change this clothing store to a restaurant.  We will also be discussing the U Street Neighborhood Harrison Recreation Center film series starting in May.

The 8th Annual Dog Days of August Sidewalk Sale and Festival is this weekend, Saturday, August 4 and Sunday, August 5.  Enjoy fabulous specials at dozens of businesses including Home Rule, Logan Hardware, Garden District, and the new 14th & U Farmers Market.

Most businesses will be open 10:00am – 7:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am – 5:00pm on Sunday.  Other special events will also be held throughout the weekend beyond these hours.

Live music, artist displays, cool drinks, shopping specials of up to 75% off or more, refreshment stands, BBQ, balloons, dog rescue adoptions, grand openings, sidewalk café's, lunch specials, fresh made lemonade, and community information stands are only some of the activities and events taking place.

Be sure to visit the Second Annual Development Showcase produced by the Cardozo Shaw Neighborhood Association at 1436 U Street, NW, that will feature individual development projects as well as updates from the District Government on major development projects including streetscape plans for both 14th and U Streets, as well as conceptual new uses for the Reeves Center at 14th & U Streets, NW.

While you are out and when you need a break from the heat you can visit the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum, purchase theatre tickets for the Source or Studio Theatres, and find out about what live bands and fine dining available as you wind down your day after hours of bargain shopping, good fun, and exploration of everything there is to experience on U Street, 14th Street, P Street, and across all of MidCity.
