Steve Johnson, Director of Howard University’s Crampton Auditorium, and Capt. Sellers, Night Commander of Howard University Campus Police, briefed CSNA on Thursday, Sep. 11, 2008, on events that will be occurring on Saturday, October 18 in conjunction with Howard’s annual Homecoming Weekend.

Beginning at 7:30 am there will be a 2K race/walk which is open to the public, followed by, from 10:00 am until noon, the annual homecoming parade.  Both events will start on the campus and travel down Georgia Avenue before hitting Florida Avenue; then it’s up to T St. and north before coming to and end on the campus.

The 2K walk/race and the parade will follow the same route - view the Howard Homecoming Parade Route. (PDF file) (928 KB)

During the parade there will be “rolling” road closures along Georgia and Florida, in particular, to ensure that traffic is minimally impeded.  In the afternoon, Howard University will take on Morgan State in football.

In addition to the events that are planned for campus, a number of other establishments around the city will be hosting homecoming events.

Representatives from Howard have been working with the DC Government, MPD Special Operations, and Metro to ensure that security, transportation, and parking issues are effectively managed.
